Government Affairs
Government Affairs &
Diplomatic Engagement.
Straife helps multinationals, governments, and international organizations map the institutions that decide their outcomes, build a case those institutions can act on, and engage through people who have spent their careers on the government side of the table.

The Advisory
What Straife Provides
Strategy, analysis, and diplomatic advisory — the substantive work that determines whether an engagement is worth having, with whom, in what order, and on what argument.
01
Mapping
Stakeholder & Institutional Mapping
A working map of who actually decides. Across the US interagency, that means understanding where an issue sits between departments, agencies, and the congressional committees with jurisdiction over it. In Brussels, it means the division of competence between the Commission, the Parliament, and the Council, and the staff level where positions are genuinely formed. In regional capitals, it means the ministries, regulators, state-owned enterprises, and advisory bodies that carry a file — and the sequence in which they need to be approached.
02
Positioning
Positioning & Messaging Strategy
Governments do not respond to commercial arguments; they respond to arguments framed in terms of the mandate they are accountable for. Straife develops the substantive case — economic, security, technological, or developmental — that makes a client’s objective legible to the institution being addressed, and adapts it for each audience without letting the underlying position drift.
03
Engagement
Diplomatic Engagement Led by Former Ambassadors
Straife’s engagement work is led by former ambassadors and senior diplomats who have sat on the government side of the table. They understand how a foreign ministry processes a request, what a head of mission can and cannot do, how decisions move through an interagency process, and why a well-argued case can still fail on timing or channel.
04
Coalition
Coalition & Multilateral Engagement
A position carries further when several credible organizations are making it. Straife builds and coordinates coalitions — industry groupings, chambers, allied governments, research institutions — and advises on engagement with multilateral bodies and standard-setting forums where the rules a client will live under are actually written.
Registered Advocacy
Lobbying Is Delivered
Through Hyperfocal Communications.
Registered lobbying and direct advocacy is delivered through Hyperfocal Communications, Straife’s affiliated lobbying firm. Hyperfocal Communications handles FARA-registered representation; Straife provides the strategy, analysis, and diplomatic advisory that sits behind it.
We treat that separation as a compliance and transparency strength. Work on behalf of foreign principals is conducted through a firm that registers and discloses under the Foreign Agents Registration Act, so clients get advocacy and analysis with a clear line between them — and everyone involved knows which entity is doing which.

Who We Work With
Organizations That Need to
Be Understood by Governments
Multinational Corporations
Operating across jurisdictions where regulatory, licensing, and market-access outcomes are decided politically as much as technically.
Governments & State-Owned Enterprises
Seeking to be understood accurately in Washington, Brussels, and other capitals — on trade, investment, security cooperation, or reputation.
International Organizations
Multilateral institutions and development bodies coordinating positions across member states and donor governments.
Investors & Sponsors
Requiring host-government access, engagement on a concession or license, or a credible institutional relationship ahead of committing capital.
Where the objective is investment attraction, industrial policy, or institutional capacity on the government side of the relationship, this work runs alongside Straife’s economic growth advisory for public sector clients.
The Engagement
A Retainer, Because
Standing Takes Time to Build.
Institutional credibility accumulates through consistent contact. Straife works on retainer so that engagement is continuous, positions stay consistent across audiences, and the client is already known when a decision point arrives.
Phase 01
Mapping & Baseline
Institutional mapping, identification of decision-makers and influencers, an assessment of the client’s current standing and reputation with each, and a candid view of what is realistically achievable and over what horizon.
Phase 02
Strategy & Positioning
The substantive case is built and tested, audiences are sequenced, channels are selected, and the engagement plan is agreed — including whether registered advocacy through Hyperfocal Communications is the right instrument for any part of it.
Phase 03
Sustained Engagement
Ongoing advisory under retainer: briefing preparation and support for principal-level meetings, diplomatic engagement led by former ambassadors, coalition coordination, and continuous read-back on how the client’s position is landing.
Phase 04
Monitoring & Adjustment
Tracking of legislative, regulatory, and political developments bearing on the client’s objective, with the strategy adjusted as administrations, mandates, and institutional priorities change.
