Luke Calhoun

Luke Calhoun is a retired Army lieutenant colonel who retired in 2019 after serving over 24 years in the United States Army. He is also a service-disabled veteran, serving five tours in Iraq and Syria. The first three tours were focused on fighting Al Qaeda in Iraq and helping the Iraqi people rebuild their country. His last two tours were focused on fighting the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) and dealing with the post-conflict challenges of refurbishment and stabilization both in Iraq and Syria. Luke is also a student of the region and has published several articles covering different geo-political and security challenges, particularly in Iraq and Syria. During his multiple combat tours, Luke was responsible for leading and managing teams between 60 and 400 strong. Overseeing daily, diverse operations over hundreds of square miles. He also served as the senior planner for a brigade combat team in combat, a unit of over 4,000 soldiers. His detail-focused planning and coordination skills have been developed over decades of service to this country and are ideally suited for the scope of projects we are interested in. Since retirement, Luke started a non-profit named The Heracles Group. Focused on Eastern Syria, Heracles has branched out to Iraq, Yemen, Somaliland, and Ukraine. Projects focus on water security, food security, and 3D-printed prosthetics. Completed projects represent almost $5 million in donations and have directly supported over 160,000 locals.
